PROJECT: Bayonne Bridge Navigational Clearance Project

As an approved vendor of the New York Port Authority, Service Wire Company has worked with leading New York area distributors and contractors on the Bayonne Bridge Navigational Clearance Project. Over 100,000 feet of Service Wire's Feeder MC and 75,000 feet of 600V XHHW-2 will be used in this important infrastructure improvement.
 

Completed in 1931, the Bayonne Bridge connects Bayonne, New Jersey, with Staten Island, spanning the Kill Van Kull. The bridge is the fourth longest steel arch bridge in the world and was the longest in the world at the time of its completion. Because the clearance under the bridge is 151 feet, shippers were forced to use small, less efficient and less environmentally friendly ships to pass under the span.
 

Known as "Raise the Roadway," this construction project will raise the clearance under the bridge from 151 feet to 215. The 64 feet of additional air draft under the bridge will allow the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to welcome larger, more efficient vessels to their ports, which will result in cleaner air in their region.
 

According to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey website, "the construction of the new roadway and demolition of the existing roadway represent a significant investment in our region. Early estimates show that from 2014-2018, the project will support nearly 2,800 jobs and $240 million in wages throughout the construction industry."
